Just to get a sense of how interconnected some cities are compared to others, we can look at some large airlines and see what cities they directly connect to. You can see how a city has a significant network between many other cities around the world.
From the London and Stansted airport websites:
- Heathrow Airport, 15 miles from central London, is regarded as the hub of the aviation world. Flying to over 180 destinations in over 90 countries, some 90 airlines have made Heathrow their base. The airport is owned by BAA, who also owns Stansted, Southampton, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen airports. (source)
- Stansted is Britain's third-busiest airport, offering flights to more than 160 destinations in over 30 countries. Whether you're arriving, connecting or departing, you'll find everything you need here to enjoy a pleasant journey.(source)
