1.4 Continuity (time)
- The major period of time when many Coastal Sand Dunes formed around the world was during the Pleistocene Period (a period of time from 2 million years ago to the end of the last ice age about 10,000 years ago).
- The top layers of the Stockton Sand Dune System is the longest continuous outer barrier in New South Wales from the Geological time period of the Holocene (approximately 11,000 years old) making it the most ancient Coastal Sand Dune System in New South Wales
- The various layers of sand and old dunes systems at Stockton, provides excellent records of sea level changes and other climate changes for the past 15,000 years.
