1.2 Altitude
- Coastal Sand Dunes can experience differing altitudes. Some of the world's most largest Sand Dunes are a few hundred meters in height.
- The average height of the sand dune system at Stockton Bight ranges from 15 to 20 metres above sea level.
- Some of the larger sand dunes reach 30 to 40 metres above sea level.
- However, between some of these high dunes are low lying areas known as swales. These sometimes fall below sea level by a few meters and they tend to have wetlands located in them.
