1.3 Extent- Size and Shape (what's it like?)

The sand dune ecosystem at Stockton Bight has the following dimensions:

• area-covers approximately 78 square kilometres
• length-extends parallel to the shoreline for approximately 31.8 kilometres
• width-extends inland for approximately 3.5 kilometres at its widest extent reaching towards Nelson Bay Road; the average width is 2 to 3 kilometres.
• depth-averages between 30 and 50 metres with underlying former Hunter River channels extending to 90 metres in depth.
